Painted Weavings

The Painted Weaving Series explores the textile-like quality of the paintings, as well as the similar processes and labor inherent in mediums such as weaving, quilting, and embroidery. Part curious about the psychological demands and benefits of these laborious crafts, the series also serves as an homage to the inspiring histories and makers of these traditionally women-led disciplines.
The 2024 Painted Weavings grew out of a curiosity of combining my technique with the traditionally austere compositions and colors of Minimalism. I explore whether my process, which embraces an intention of goodwill and warmth towards the viewer, can subvert the ambivalence and dominance often employed by the old-guard Minimalists.
